Weeknote

The job hunt continues… the soul-sucking process of waking everyday and finding a point in the pointlessness of filling job application forms. Everyone I talk to finds the process dreadful. The job market has been especially made worse by people getting the magical ability to generate meaningful, yet often soulless words. I, do not use AI or agents to write resumes or cover letters, every job application and email I send is an artisianal hand written piece.

I have decided that I don’t want to use AI for writing. Writing is self-expression, it can be poetic, encapsulate my personality, and I don’t want to water down the soulfulness of my expression from the text generated by a stochastic model.

I constantly hear that AI tends to struggle with writing compared to (talented?) humans. I believe it to be true, and I think the more I write the better I will get at writing. My writing is an amalgamation of my experiential context window, blending my habits, personality, and the media that I have been consuming, it can often indicate which generation I come from, which part of the world I grew up in etc. I, also value the humans who are reviewing my cover letter and resume.

Other than that, I have started picking up Guitar again. I have a steel string and I have been developing callouses and strength in the muscles of my hand so one day I am able to play those barre chords. I picked up some guitar 3 years back and I am surprised about how much I remember. I am actually able to play some songs on the Guitar.

I started watching Ted Lasso as well! Recently, I have found myself seeking more positivity, and Ted Lasso certainly helps. I have been recently thinking about how ‘empathy’ is used predominantly in the context of understanding pain, but you can just use the same empathy to feel happy for others.

The politics in India has been rough, there are a lot of ongoing protests in New Delhi. The protests affect my mental health, a lot of my friends participated in the protests, and I care about the well-being of everyone involved.

The week started rough because of the job hunt yielding little to no value and the protests, but I strangely feel more hopeful that if I keep at it, I will find a job. I think I will focus more on getting referrals, maybe building something of my own? I think going ahead this week I want to read “More, Everything, Forever” to better understand the state of AI. It’s really a strange time to live in. A lot of my friends have stopped deriving fun from their work, and while it is sad, I find finding fun to be an interesting problem. I know a few people who look at “work” as “work” and still achieve amazing things, while others tie a big chunk of their self-worth with work and still achieve a lot. It is the later kind that have been finding work less fun. Maybe it’s time to become more detached and find other ways to relax and have fun.
